Hi guys!
A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of photographing John & Kristina’s wedding, in Auckland.
Our day began with the getting ready photos – John looked very suave in his diamond studded bow tie, and Kristina’s dress was amazing – so much train!!
Based in Melbourne, John & Kristina got in touch with us and said they were having a Coptic wedding ceremony.. which we’d never experienced before, but were totally keen to find out!
It was an amazing day, and the ceremony was fantastic – a real joy to photograph.
We headed out in the blustery wind & rain after that, getting some shots down by the harbourside with the Auckland skyline in the distance… and then up to Matakana, where they had decorated Ascension vineyard beautifully with fairy lights!
We had time for a few shots in the vineyard, and the wine cellar… and then it was into the reception, the dancing, and partying on for the night!!
John & Kristina – thank you both so much for inviting us along to share a part in your special day. We had so much fun documenting it for you.
And this is what we saw.

Enjoy the photos – there are many more to come!

Hi guys,
A few weeks ago, we headed out on a rainy evening to the city center – where we photographed Gavin & Genna’s engagement session.
We made the most of the rain on the day – playing with umbrellas, and the lovely atmospheric evening lights.
They came into the studio the other day to select their favs – here are some of them.

And – just this afternoon – we had their beautiful frame arrive back to us – which is how they chose to display the images… it looks amazing!

Gavin & Genna are into our competition to win a $5200 wedding photography package – you’ll be able to vote for them on our Perspectives Facebook page very soon

Hi guys,
A week or so ago, we caught up with the lovely Chris & Kristie, on a rainy day at Cornwall Park.
We had a couple of cool ideas involving the rain & some lighting, that we wanted to try out… but as soon as we arrived, the rain cleared up!
Never mind – the wet roads made for some cool reflections as they walked along…

And the kowhai trees were looking very ‘spring’ … we even had a little burst of backlight sunshine to make these ones feel really lovely & warm…

The rain finally returned – so we made the most of it & were stoked that the images we had pictured in our minds actually translated into reality!!

We finished up our shoot on top of the hill… looking out across a stormy Auckland.

Coming out & doing their engagement shoot also get’s Chris & Kristie into our competition to win a $5200 wedding photography package – once the competition goes live on October 10, you can head along to our Perspectives Facebook Page to keep an eye on who’s winning!

Hi guys,
On Friday afternoon, we traveled down from Auckland to photograph the St. Paul’s Collegiate Ball in Hamilton. It was an awesome setup, in the theme of ‘Carnival’.
The space was centered around a huge carnival like pavilion – covered in fairy lights…

The fairy lights also made for an awesome alternate backdrop for casual photos…

While for the formal shots… we had a really cool carousel backdrop to play with…

For the purpose of this post… we wanted to share a few of the ‘out there’ shots
We have hundreds of gorgeous photos of gorgeous people… which will be up on our Perspectives Facebook Page in the next couple of days. But until then… here’s a little something to keep you going.

This was one of the only balls we’ve photographed to include a sit-down meal. Which was awesome! (A: Because food is good, and B: It meant there were a few more props to play with…)

Note that the food ties in with the carnival theme too… like… candyfloss…

At one stage in the evening, the dancfloor filled up… and the dancing instructor took the stage. They had been learning various dance steps over the last few months, and over the thump of the DJ, the instructor helped to orchestrate some amazing dancing! It was really cool to see everyone getting into it, and also made for some great shots.

Later in the evening, the dancefloor was packed again – and this time, we got out the fisheye lens to catch a more unique angle of everything going on…

Back on the formal photo backdrop, things were as crazy as ever…

The end of the evening came all too fast… and the dancing carried on right up until the music stopped & the lights came on.

We were so impressed with the whole event – the students were so polite & gracious – and just made working with you a pleasure.
While you’re waiting for the rest of the ball photos to hit Facebook, check out our ball dress fashion shoot – which we call our ‘afterball’ sessions. If you & a few mates are keen to rock your ball dresses again (rather than just leave them in the wardrobe for ever) – let us know
Until next time,
Isaac & Amber

A few weeks ago, we caught up with Paul & Kelly – who wanted to get their entry into our engagement shoot competition – and be in to win a $5200 wedding photography package.
They were really keen to get some shots up somewhere ‘high’ … so we began at Mt. Eden…

It was really windy & cold – so we headed to a more sheltered spot, for a picnic.
In the rain.

The picnic then deteriorated somewhat… into a full-on food fight! Super awesome

It was a fun, messy, and totally enjoyable shoot – good luck in the competition guys!

Hi guys,
On Saturday, we headed out near Woodhill forest, to photograph Willie & Emma’s wedding day.
They had just arrived during the last few days from their home in Australia, to share their celebrations with their NZ friends & family.
It was a wedding based around their love for their children & their family – with all of them featuring in the ceremony.
One of the most special things was Willie singing his vows to Emma – something she had no idea was going to happen… just beautiful. There weren’t many dry eyes in the house!
Here is a little peek, at what we saw during a day hanging out with this beautiful family.

Willie, Emma, and whanau – thank you so much for sharing your day with us – we had so much fun capturing these images!
Enjoy this little taster – many more to come!

Last Saturday, we photographed our first wedding of the season, out at beautiful Sarnia Park in Cambridge.
John & Nina were fantastic to work with – and their bridal party was so relaxed & happy!
We love shooting at Sarnia.. as it’s a venue we’re really familiar with, it always feels a little like playing a ‘home game’ … and gives us the chance to experiment with new things every time.
John & Nina both got ready on site, which meant we could float between the guys & the ladies – checking out what each was up to.

Nina’s gown was designed by Anna Schimmel – one of our favourite designers in the world – gorgeous lace, delicate details – a stunning dress!

The ceremony was held indoors – catering for the worst possible weather the tempestuous NZ spring weather could throw at them. Typically – the day itself was absolutely stunning – not a cloud in sight. That still didn’t stop a few nervous glances out the window though!

Sometimes, instead of avoiding harsh light & shadows – it’s fun to roll with them & capitalize on what nature is serving up.

An indoor ceremony also provides the chance for a grand, sweeping entrance down the stairs!

After the ceremony – we headed out the make the most of the gorgeous late afternoon light, slowly settling in the sky.
It’s rare that we’ve seen such perfect backlight out at Sarnia Park – one of the benefits of early spring!

Unfortunately, even though we were into spring.. the cherry blossoms at Sarnia Park were yet to come out… so we headed down the road to a spot we’d located beforehand with some gorgeous white plum blossoms.

Our last shot of the day, with the light fading fast, involved a bit of extra ‘oomph’ from our lighting setup, to really make the blossoms falling through the air light up against the sky.

John, Nina, and bridal party – thanks to you all for being so much fun! Enjoy this little sneak peek of the photos… there are many more to come!

Hi guys!
Our last wedding in Rarotonga this trip was very special – with our friends Joe & Chanel coming over for their tropical wedding.
Joe is the reason this website exists. He’s website designer extraordinaire and a long time surfing buddy. Chanel is his gorgeous wife (now! congrats!) who is a talented art restorer, painter, author, academic, and more.
It was a real privilege to be invited along to share in their day, both as photographers and guests.
So without further ado… some of what we saw.

Their ceremony was held on Rutaki beach, which was beautiful, with the huge surf crashing in the background. Andrea & Fiona from Wedded Bliss ensured that everything ran smoothly & without a hitch.

Remember that mention of the huge surf, crashing in the background?
Well. At one point, the surf came right through the lagoon… we sat there watching these waves rolling towards us over the lagoon…

And then there was the sudden realization… as the wave hit the beach… that it was going to come a looooonng way up! Cue a mad scramble up the beach, grabbing camera bags & gear as the water swirled past our ankles. Later that afternoon, waves were surging up and over the road all down the south coast – it was something quite cool to witness. In the next image, you can see the water around everyone’s feet and through the trees..

Joe, his brother, & Isaac – being keen bodyboarders – were watching the huge waves hitting the outer reefs, speculating as to their size. For anyone interested – here’s the same swell as it arrived at Teahupo’o in Taihiti, the following day.
Rainbows.

It was time to head out for a few shots on (what was left of) the beach… these were interspersed with mad scrambles back up to dry ground as the bigger waves washed right up the beach.

Tucked away, in some shelter from the elements…

As we weren’t going to see the sunset from the beach where the ceremony took place, we jumped into the cars, and raced around the corner in the fading light to try and get a few shots before the sun disappeared completely.
I love the reflections in these ones!

It was then back to PawPaw Patch restaurant, where we had a delicious meal (I just can’t get enough of tropical gamefish – so fresh & tasty!) – followed by some really beautiful speeches.

Late in the evening, we had a play out the back of Moana Sands, where we set some lights up & spent a while testing various settings… so we were able to whisk Joe & Chanel outside briefly to capture this.

Thank you both for inviting us along to share in your wedding day – we had a really great time, and it was lovely to meet your whanau also. Enjoy these few photos – there are many more to follow!

Hi guys,
A couple of weeks ago, we were lucky enough to photograph Jason & Kirsten’s gorgeous wedding at the Tamarind House, in Rarotonga.
We love shooting at Tamarind – it’s big, open, has great ambiance – not to mention the beautiful fairy lights on the trees!
This particular day in Raro was windy!! Screaming in from the SW, we needed to adjust the plans slightly to favour the sheltered side of the island.
Jason’s father had carved these pounamu especially for the boys to wear – which was really special.

There were plenty of laughs throughout the day – these guys were the most energetic bridal party! I don’t think I’ve ever heard the Zulu vocals from ‘The Circle of Life’ sung quite so enthusiastically (or accurately!!)

The property they had rented in Vaimaanga was easily big enough to house everyone… so while the antics downstairs continued, the girls were finishing off their preparations upstairs – Kirsten’s Mum helped her perfect the flowers in her hair.

They decided to do their bridal party photos pre-ceremony – which was lovely, as we had all the time in the world to make our way from their beach, right up to the Tamarind House – with a few stops in between!
Stop one… the beach. About 20 metres from their front doorstep. That’s the life, huh!

Down the road, we had come across this cool field with a tree. Unfortunately, the field had a tree… and prickly little biddy-bids that stuck themselves all through the girls dresses! Once we discovered the problem though, we were already right into the field… so we stayed & captured a few shots while we were there.
Plus – it provided something to do on the car trip to the next spot!!

There was a bit of cool coral on the beach here (well, ‘beach’ being a relative term – there’s no sand, just big lumps of coral)..

Our last stop en-route to the ceremony was this great little track – so lush, green, and Raro!

Plus – the added bonus of a high vantage point for this dramatic, Jurrasic Park meets winding country lane, shot…

Down at the Tamarind House, the chairs were in place – as the local string band provided background music.

Kirsten’s Dad looked so proud as he walked her down the aisle.

Tiptoes.

We had a few minutes, during which the sunset occurred. The rotation of the earth wasn’t really in question… we knew the sun would eventually go down… but would the prevailing clouds let enough light through to make anything look cool???
Answer? Yes.

Back at the Tamarind House, the light was fading fast from the sky, and the fairy lights on the trees came alive.

As the bridal party headed in for a much anticipated meal, we floated around to capture a few of the final details in the diminishing light.

Jason & Kirsten – thank you both so much for allowing us to share a part in your beautiful island wedding. We had a great time with you all – and maybe we’ll see you back next year for an anniversary getaway!

Hi guys
Last week, I flew over to Aitutaki to photograph Jason & Rebecca’s wedding at the Aitutaki Lagoon Resort.
It was a beautiful, intimate affair – just the two of them.
The morning was cruisy – Moet & sunshine!

Down on the beach, the archway was set up –

And their ceremony was underway!

Afterwards – there was time for more Moet –

Then it was time to plant their coconut sapling – a local tradition where a newly-wed couple plant a coconut tree to thrive & remain to mark the day for the rest of time.

We had a few hours until their candlelit dinner on the beach – so we made the most of the chance to get some cool shots around the beach & lagoon.

The brilliant blues & turquoises of the lagoon looked perfect as they stood on the deck of their stunning overwater bungalow..

After a quick relax in the hammock…

… We took a wander along the waterline. The clouds began to roll in over the horizon, making for a dramatic contrast!!

The Aitutaki Lagoon Resort is equally stunning once you get away from the beach…

When you arrive at the resort from the airport, you need to take the ferry over the channel – as it’s on a separate island. Jason & Rebecca were keen to work the ferry into the background of a few images – the fold-down gangplank is very cool!

We then got off the beaten track a little… I asked Jason & Rebecca if they thought they might be up for some rock-hopping… here’s the result!

Finally, we headed back down to the beach, where they had a gorgeous private dinner set up, surrounded with tiki torches, right on the lagoon front. Unfortunately, the weather was against them, and the rain was sweeping in quickly over the sea.
The appearance of the clouds did make for some cool sunset colour in the skies..

Their wedding coordinator arrived with an umbrella.. and the conversation attached to the below shots went something like this….
“Do you want us to get rid of the umbrella for a few shots?”
“ummm…. it’s kinda wet… totally your call!”
“Nah – we’re keen as, no problems!”
“OK – just watch out for the…. hah…… wind.”

If you’ve enjoyed these images – head along and “like” our Perspectives Facebook Page – where you can stay updated with all our latest creations.
Jason & Rebecca – thanks so much for having me along to share in your special day!
Enjoy these images – plenty more to come soon.
Isaac.
