Hi guys,
On Sunday, we had the pleasure of photographing 9 gorgeous brides, all in one shoot.
It was our ‘Bride Parade’ – which is fast becoming an annual event that is eagerly anticipated – places for this one booked up within 3 hours of it being announced!
Every year, we scout out for the perfect location, and this time – it was ‘Casabella’ – which is the property owned by Amber’s parents, Peta & Ian Hardley. They were so gracious & accommodating with us borrowing their power, taking over one end of the house with dresses, makeup, and brides – and the place looked stunning. Peta is a fantastic wedding celebrant too – and the property is available for people to have their wedding ceremony at… keep this in mind!
Thanks also to Mathew Nimmo – who assisted us during the shoot, making sure Amber didn’t fall off the ladder, holding reflectors, lights, and all sorts – he was invaluable.
Jo-Ann from Best Blooms flowers in Henderson donated her time & expertise – providing 4 stunning bouquets for the shoot, thanks Jo!
And Ashlee & Kate from Beautified did an AMAZING job with the hair & makeup – all of the brides looked perfect.
It was a super long day (we started setting up at 8am and it was about 10pm by the time we finished packing up) – so a big thanks also to all the girls who were patient & into it all day.
Right. What you’ve all been waiting for….

Hi guys,
On Friday, we headed out to Bracu at the Simunovich Olive Estate to photograph Evan & Ashlee’s beautiful wedding.
In the morning, we headed around to the boys place, where Evan & his groomsmen had been relaxing by hitting a few golf balls around, and were ready to go.

Around at the girls place, Ashlee from Beautified had just finished her gorgeous job with the makeup, and Ashlee our bride was ready to get into her dress!

So cute!

Ashlee’s flowers had a beautiful scent (there was a particular flower in there with the roses – I forget what, but it smelled amazing!)

The combination of full, bright sunlight & dark clouds in behind made for a dramatic image – and I like the fact that it’s in front of the house in which Ashlee has lived her whole life.

Down at the church, Dad had some final words of advice..

And then the ceremony was under way..

Sometimes though, when you’re 4 years old… it’s way more interesting to draw a picture than watch a wedding.

After their ceremony, we hopped into the cars & headed down to Bracu.
It’s one of our favourite places to shoot – beginning with the impressive gates, where we got our lights into action:

And the road out front..
‘

Holly took this gorgeous image – love the moment that has been captured.

The bridal party was so much fun – very easy to work with!

Next up – a little (or not) hill climb. Trekking up into the Olives… which proved to be totally worth the trip, for a few images like these…

We decided that it was only fair that if we ask everyone to climb the hill, we needed to be willing to do the same!
So up we went… looking back down..

And then – the sun came out, and gave us this gorgeous backlight to play with…

Holly always nails this shot, beautiful sun flare in the corner – we’re jealous!

Back down the bottom, we finished up with the bridal party….

And then we whisked Evan & Ashlee away into the wine library for a few final shots…

I love the dark, rustic wood shelves in there… and it gave me the idea for this ‘Victorian’ inspired shot – thanks to Ashlee & Evan for accommodating my weird ideas!

Final shot of the day:

The pavilion was beautifully decorated for their reception, and as we left, it looked to be gearing up for a great night!

It was an awesome wedding day – thanks so much for having us along to share a part in it.
Hope that Thailand is amazing, too!

Hi guys,
Introducing… us.

(except I don’t have the beard any more. Amber is happy about that.)
We like taking photos.
We like weddings. In fact – here’s what we LOVE about weddings
We might be still available on your date.
We have possibly shot at your venue before, too – but we love getting to shoot for the first time at new venues, as it’s a totally fresh look at things!
No, we don’t have a travel charge for anywhere around Auckland – but yes, for a small fee we’ll go anywhere in the world.
Our style? – you ask. hmmm. Dramatic. ‘Directed candid’… we want things to look natural, but we’ll also direct you to make sure we’re bringing out the absolute best in you. We love lighting, and attention to detail.
Deposit? $500.
If you hadn’t guessed yet, we’re not going to be at the wedding show. Or any of the wedding shows.
You won’t find our ads in magazines, either.
But you will find nearly 200 totally stoked past brides & grooms, out there around the world (as many of our clients come from overseas) who will happily tell you about us.
You can also scroll through our blog – and see that we can consistently deliver the goods, every single wedding, every time. No matter the weather, the light, the schedule.
You can touch base with us on Facebook. You can follow us on Twitter.
And – you can come & meet with us yourself, minus all the wedding show hustle & bustle, at our studio: where there are couches, coffee, Queensberrys, and not a million other people!
If you’d like to arrange a time to chat about your wedding day, flick us an email – and we can arrange a time.
Look forward to meeting you!
Isaac & Amber.

Hi guys,
On Saturday, we headed down to Otorohanga for Michelle & Jason’s wedding… which was held in Michelle’s family church, and then reception at Sarnia Park in Cambridge.
We left Auckland early, and headed down to Hamilton, where we caught up with Jason & his best man, Will.
They were all ready to go when we arrived (even though it was like 4 hours before the wedding) – awesome!

Both Jason & Will are in the NZ Navy, so they’re no strangers to formal dress!

We headed outdoors for a few final shots…

Then it was off to Otorohanga, where we arrived at Michelle’s parents home – to find everyone similarly organized – woohoo! It’s rare that we actually *get* the time for pre-ceremony photos that we suggest.. so the times that we do, it’s always very exciting!
When we walked into the house, it was like a collection of our favourite vendors! Michelle’s hair was being finished off by the mobile team from Ktizo, the gorgeous bouquets had been delivered by Karen, Rachel from Ruby Rouge had just finished the makeup, and Michelle’s stunning Anna Schimmel wedding gown was hanging up, waiting to be photographed

The gown had a layer of delicate lace covering it, and was topped off with this gold broach from Michelle’s grandmother. It was exquisite.
Then, it was time to get into it! Michelle & her bridesmaid, Christina, needed no encouragement to get into their dresses (Christina’s was a stunning Armani dress, I think Amber wanted to steal it
).

Time for a couple of last shots…

And then it was time for us to head down to the church (not even needing to rush, thanks to things running to schedule in the morning!).
It was a cute little Catholic church – and I love the fact that Michelle’s grandparents, and parents, were also married in the same church. In fact, later on, we took a photograph with all 6 of them in front of the church, which matches the photos taken many years ago. So cool.
Michelle arrived – and it was time to go.

Jason when he saw Michelle for the first time..

When we’re shooting inside a small church, especially if the priest has requested that no-one take photos, we’re very aware of not being ‘shutter happy’ and firing away incessantly – as the shutters are quite loud in a small space. So… instead, we wait for the absolute key moments, and take one shot, making it count.
The funny side of this is, that Amber & I often interpret the exact same key moment – resulting in ‘camera jinx’… where we hear each other’s shutters go at the exact same moment. It happened so many times today, we had a little giggle afterwards. Things like when someone is doing a reading – there is a point where they glance up & make eye contact with the congregation. **double click**. Then the priest raises his hand to bless the rings. **double click**. Or – during the sermon… Jason & Michelle take a quick glance at one another and a smile. **double click**. Here’s one of those moments, from each of our cameras. This took about half a second.. and we each took only one frame.

During the vows, there were a few tears..

And a perfect first kiss…

Usually, we don’t tend to blog signing shots, as they’re often not all that ‘interesting’. But something about these two images I just love. Adding to the cool factor, is that Jason MADE the candle holder – he’s fantastic with wrought iron – and actually made an awesome sign for us at our studio.

The priest giving a blessing.

After the ceremony, as Jason & Michelle walked out of the church, their friend – who had come all the way from Paraguay for the wedding – had some rice to throw.. I love the way the rice has arched up to mirror the doorway of the church.

There were hugs. There were kisses. We took photos. There were family group shots. We took more photos. But we’ll save those for another day… because you know you all want to see what came next.
We drove over to Cambridge (it’s quite surreal having a 45 minute drive between ceremony & the location shots… it felt like we had only just arrived for the day when we got to Sarnia Park, not like we’d already been shooting for 5 hours!
First stop – Lake Karapiro.

And then another cool spot we found…

The above shots were taken in a light overcast… and then… the sun came out. Which was what we’d been waiting for.

Content with some amazing shots (but wanting to stay and shoot there forever) – we headed back to Sarnia Park.
When we arrived, Amber headed over to photograph the reception setup (it’s always nice to do these things before the room is filled up with all the guests) – and we learned that Jason had also made each & every one of the table centerpieces from wrought iron. So cool. Michelle’s touch was seen throughout the whole room – it looked perfect. But it was definitely cool to see some ‘DIY’ that the groom had supplied!

We headed across to collect their bridal hamper & drinks, and the 4 of them had a much deserved time out, a nibble, and some drinks. A few quick shots too…

The light was fading, and in the time left, Michelle & Jason wanted to have a practice of their first dance (which they’d had some professional lessons for). It looked superb (and I later heard from Michelle that the real thing went without a hitch!).
It was a good excuse for us to get the lights out & have a play with some cool lighting.

Then, just before the reception began, we headed over for a couple of shots under the lamps – a fittingly soft & romantic way to round off the photos.

Thank you both so much for having us along to share a part in your special day – we had so much fun with you all, and are so stoked to have been entrusted with capturing these memories.
Enjoy the photos – so many more awesome ones to come!

Hi guys,
Last Saturday, we headed down to Taupo, where we photographed Grant & Patsy’s gorgeous wedding at Huka Resort.
In the morning, we headed around to the boys place – this shot of the rings pretty well sums up the difficult role the guys have to play on a wedding day…

This is the cat which randomly wandered into the guys villa 2 days prior… curled up on the bed… and never left! You can tell by his expression that he loves having his photo taken…

We then headed around to the girls place – where Patsy & bridesmaids were finishing up their makeup. We found a cool reflection for Patsy’s gorgeous wedding dress…

When we’re driving to weddings, Amber, Holly & I often have guessing games as to what colour the bridesmaids dresses will be. I don’t think brown has ever been mooted as an option… so it was a refreshing surprise to see these stunning bridesmaids dresses, and the colour was amazing. It looked so cool later in the day too, when we shot in some autumn-y locations.

The hallway had a curve in it. Which was cool.

We had time for a couple of quick shots with Patsy & her bridesmaids altogether..

And then it was off to Huka Resort chapel – where their guests were eagerly awaiting the arrival.

Beautiful first kiss.

After the ceremony, we took a couple of shots with their super cute flowergirl – who wasn’t coming along on the location photos with the bridal party.

Then we were off – heading first down to a little wharf in Acacia Bay. By this stage, the wind had picked up and it was getting really chilly – well done to everyone for not showing it!!

We had to queue for a while to get the wharf free of people launching / bringing in their boats – but eventually there was a gap…

It was amazing, seeing the differing colours in the backgrounds – on the lakeside were these lovely autumn willow trees, and then a tiny variation towards the shore yielded lush green.

And then back to autumn.

Second stop – on our way back towards Huka… a little roadside. We got some cool walking shots..

And also this cool fallen log – for which we set up the lights to make for some dramatic skies..

What we didn’t know about this location, though, is that apparently… people from Taupo like to dump their rubbish there. Groomsman Vaughan went for a mission and disappeared into the bushes. Everyone assumed he was off to attend to the call of nature.. and were fairly surprised when he came striding back to present Grant & Patsy with their very first wedding gifts.

It was time to head back, and on arriving at Huka Resort – we convinced Grant & Patsy to spend 5 minutes shooting this final location that we’d stumbled across in the morning. Conveniently, it was right next to an orchard, which had delicious red apples to keep the bridesmaids & groomsmen occupied!
The field was beautiful – swishy grass + autumn trees = win.

From the few tidbits we heard at the reception, it looked as though it was shaping up to be an awesome night – hope that you guys had a blast!

Thanks so much for inviting us along to share a part in your special day, we had a fantastic time with you all. There are many, many more pics to come.

Hi guys,
Last Friday, we headed down to Hamilton to photograph Lana & Ian’s beautiful wedding at Vilagrad Winery.
Our day began around at the boys place – where Ian & his best man were donning their kilts…

It always amazes me when I see the intricacies of the traditional Scottish dress – the laces tied just so, the socks perfectly folded, knife tucked in… I’d never be able to remember it all!

We then headed out to the girls – who were getting ready at the on-site villa at Vilagrad. Denise from Spoilt Beauty was putting the finishing touches on makeup, and Lana was ready to get into her stunning Kate Dowman wedding gown.

We had time for a couple of shots outside..

And then it was time to head across for the ceremony. The piper began to play, and the flowergirls were eagerly awaiting their first glimpse of stunning Lana..

Their priest was fantastic – mixing a great sense of humour into the ceremony… and he also displayed a good knowledge of Scottish traditions, like the sealing of an agreement by drinking from the Quaich.

After the ceremony, we headed out with the bridal party for some photos around the place. Lana was keen for something a little more ‘grungy’ in some of the shots – which was great fun! We kicked off at this awesome old barn..

And we had a visit by the owner’s pet pig!! He came running across the fields to check out what was going on.. and quickly became interested in what was inside the chilly-bin..

On the other side of the barn was a lovely sweeping rise, where we were able to take advantage of the dramatic skies… (and on the way up the rise, Holly took this next shot).

Next stop was a cornfield that we found, with some beautiful golden backlight in the afternoon sun. Luckily it was still there – as the entire surrounding countryside was in full-on harvest mode!

Last stop on the tour was another field, with a dilapidated corrugated iron barn…

and a golden brown field of tussocky grass…

We love to fully utilize our time on the bridal party shoot… if Lana & Ian needed to walk from point A to point B… it became another option for a shot! This was once we’d finished in the field / barn – and needed to walk a few metres back down the driveway to the car.

We finished up our day with a couple of shots in the wine cellars at Vilagrad – we love shooting in there, and playing around with a bit of lighting.

It was a fantastic wedding – thank you both so much for having us along to share a part in your day

Hi guys!
On Friday night, we finished photographing Kevin & Patricia’s wedding at Sarnia Park, and headed over the hills to the beautiful beach town of Ohope – just past Whakatane.
After a quick stop at Flying Burrito Brothers in Tauranga (best Mexican food out!) – we had arrived, and eagerly anticipated the arrival of morning.
With the daylight… came the rain. Only the odd shower throughout the morning – we were hopeful. However – the severe weather warnings had us a little concerned… as Ohope doesn’t have much other than beach!
In the morning, we arranged use of a few wet weather spots around the town… just in case. Lucky we did.. because it definitely came in handy later on!
We stopped in at the Salon & chatted to Mish, and met her lovely bridesmaids.. and after a few shots, we headed around to the motel to see Grant.
He was busy getting ready… watched carefully by his shadow..

He was also helped out on the day by his brother & sister – groomsman & groomsmaid respectively

A little note from Michelle…

And we were then off to see the girls.
By looking at a couple of these details.. you can already see that Mish had decided to do something a bit unique… the beautiful flax bouquet & black Chucks…

Culminating in her GORGEOUS black wedding dress!!

The black fascinator was 4th time lucky, so anyone needing a birdcage veil, I know someone with 3 spares!!

I love the way the light is hitting her eyes here – just perfect.

By this point, the boys had left for the ceremony, and we had shot about every angle we could in one motel room! So, despite a little showering of rain, we headed quickly out for a few outdoor shots before the car arrived..

Down at the Ohope Golf Club, the ceremony had been moved into the reception room, and the guests were awaiting the arrival. Down the aisle to Metallica ‘Nothing Else Matters’ – which fit perfectly.
I have to admit – I was really really hoping to be able to show you an image now, of everyone’s faces the first time they saw Mish – aghast that she was wearing a BLACK wedding dress…. but alas… no-one put on a suitably shocked expression for us!! I think that it just *fit* so well that no-one seemed to give it a second thought. Which I like.

Grant did get his sister Lucy crying during his vows though…

Afterwards, people had some time to come & pass on their congratulations..

Usually, I don’t tend to blog family / group photos… as we’re trying to save as much space as possible for the bridal party location shots… but I know this one will be appreciated by many. These are some of Mish’s friends who traveled from across NZ to celebrate with them – weddings.co.nz eat your heart out!

By this time, it was absolutely BUCKETING down… and we had just over an hour to go play photos. In the rain. And fading light.
First stop – a gorgeous little shop advertising ‘floral design and objects of desire’…. Ruby Dunes, in Ohope.
Who were closed.
Damn.
I peeked in the window, and saw the owner just switching off the lights & about to leave. A guilty knock on the door, my best puppy dog face, and we had 15 minutes of extra time that she so graciously remained behind for & let us use her shop.

Thanks again to Ruby Dunes – go to Ohope, go to their shop, and buy something. Coz they’re lovely. They also have a florist based there, so do wedding flowers & the like
So.. the rain had somewhat eased, and we decided to try our luck at the beach.
Down a set of cool sandbag steps, and onto the wet sand – where we quickly became progressively soggier…

It was now properly raining – so I ran all the way back to the car to get umbrellas… and then realized that I didn’t have the keys.
So I ran back again, and Amber took a turn – this time successful, and returned bearing umbrellas!

As we left the beach, we took the chance for a few epic sky shots on the dunes – using some lighting.
It was so wet by now – you can’t see it properly at this resolution – but zoomed in @ 100% size, you can see Grant & Michelle’s skin glistening & streaming water, their clothes getting wetter… but they took it all in their stride, and it resulted in some great shots!

Last stop – the wharf – where (thankful for small mercies) the rain had driven away the usual crowds of fishermen, leaving it deserted.

As the wind picked up – blowing umbrellas inside out…

We sought shelter under a nearby overhang – where we finished up for the day..

So there you have it – when Grant & Michelle went and played in the rain!
It was 100% down to what they made of it… with such adverse weather conditions, it would have been easy to get disheartened, or to decide that it wasn’t worth getting wet, so good on them for making the most of everything & just having fun – it really shines through.
Later on, back at the reception, it was still raining .. (surprise!) … and we decided to have a play with a shot we’ve been wanting to do for ages.
Inspired by Australian master photographer Jerry Ghionis … we wanted to get a cool backlit rain shot. Our mate Mike Hill has been rocking them recently too – and we’ve just been hanging out for the combination of it being raining + dark at a wedding so we could give it a try. This was our first chance… and the following image is essentially straight out of camera – that’s just how it looked on the back of the screen!
Thanks to Aaron (Mrs. E’s husband) for helping us hold the lights!

^^ And thanks to Grant & Mish for putting up with our geeky photographer whims & getting back out into the elements, again.
If you’ve enjoyed these images, head over and ‘like’ our Perspectives Photography Facebook Page – where you can stay updated with our latest creations.
It was a fantastic wedding – we had so much fun with you guys. Thanks for coming out & playing in the rain with us – and for having so much fun while doing so.
We are so stoked that you entrusted us to capture these memories of your day
Enjoy the images – and many more to come soon.

Hi guys,
On Friday, we headed down to Cambridge for Kevin & Patricia’s wedding at Sarnia Park.
In the morning, there were a few showers – and it was forecast to get heavier later on in the day… which it did!
We kicked off with some shots of the boys…

And then Patricia got into her stunning custom made dress, and was looking incredible!

We’ve had a few weddings recently at Sarnia Park where the rain has threatened during the day, but by ceremony time it has cleared up enough to have the ceremony outdoors.
Guilty admission time – we’ve been hoping for ages to get the chance to shoot a ceremony indoors! So we were very happy when the call was made to shift the ceremony inside
Patricia made a sweeping entrance down the grand staircase.. and Holly took these next two shots.

Their ceremony was beautiful – celebrant Roseanne Hannah did a fantastic job!

Nothing speaks truer of the beauty of marriage than seeing Mum & Dad holding hands in the front row.

Mirrors on the walls also made for the chance to play around a little..

By the time the ceremony ended, people had a chance to congratulate Kevin & Patricia, and the group & family photos were done… the rain had well & truly arrived.
Still – we managed to find a sheltered spot which conveniently had red apple trees to match our red umbrella!

The brickwork not only looks cool – but provides a ‘lee side’ out of the rain (somewhat).

At this point, we planned to head across to the lake, using the shelter of the pagoda there… but the rain was falling in sheets, and it was just too wet – even with the brollies!

So instead, we headed back indoors….

We got our lights out, and played with creating some interesting & romantic light…

To finish up, just before the reception, we had a play with something a little different – we love to challenge ourselves to create something new every time, especially in a venue we photograph regularly. So… here it is.

If you’ve enjoyed these images, head over and ‘like’ our Perspectives Photography Facebook Page – where you’ll stay updated with all our latest creations as they pop up in your news feed
Kevin & Patricia – thanks so much for having us along to share a part in your wedding day – we had a great time with you guys!
Enjoy the photos – and many more to follow soon

Hi guys,
On Saturday, we headed over to Cambridge, to photograph Daniel & Jade’s wedding at Sarnia Park.
Daniel & his groomsmen were getting ready at his parents place – which had some perfect directional light, and a great staircase!

Outside in the garden, the backlight was coming through the trees – and the boys were more than happy to muck around a little…

We bundled up into the car, and headed over to Cambridge – where the girls were dressed, ready, and waiting.
Jade’s dress was amazing – purchased from a bridal gallery in Melbourne – with plenty of ruffles to catch the light at the bottom.

I love the way the light is falling here – it’s essentially direct, full sunlight – which was spotlighting a patch on the stairs.

The ceremony took place on the cherry blossom lawn – which they had also decorated with some paper lanterns. These, along with the trees – provide a cool frame to peek through!

Kay Gregory was fantastic as their celebrant – it was beautifully intimate & personal.

Then it was time for a wander around the Sarnia grounds…

Cool little spot tucked away at Sarnia that we’ve never used before – photo by the fabulous Holly:

We headed down the road to Lake Karapiro – which was calm, still, and inviting – I was tempted to go for a swim!
Instead, I made do with holding the camera almost in the water..

Daniel & Jade down at the end of the wharf – while the bridesmaids & groomsmen look on…

It was a gorgeous wedding – thanks so much guys, for having us along to share a part in it!

Hi guys,
On Friday, we joined the throngs of people heading into New Plymouth for the WOMAD music festival… but for an entirely different purpose.. to photograph Rachael & Jesse’s awesome wedding at St Mary’s Church, and reception at Okurukuru winery.
We even managed to make it down a day early, and had time to just relax, refresh, and scope out cool locations. The weather was murky & grey – and we crossed all our fingers & toes for the rain to stop.
In the morning, we headed around to Jesse’s parents place – where the boys were getting ready.
The mark you can see on Jesse’s hand in this shot is courtesy of stag night paintball.. I can only imagine how sore that must have been!

Around at the girls, things were very organized – and when we arrived, everyone was essentially ready to go.
Rachael had told us that she loved photos with strong lines & angles in them… and she couldn’t have picked a better house (in fact, House of the Year) to get ready in!

Rachael’s dress was amazing – beautiful gathering of fabric, and a gorgeous lace layer at the bottom.

Rachael’s two sisters were her bridesmaids – Lorene (on the left) is a friend of ours, who’s TTD shoot we photographed in Queenstown last year.

I love the light in this shot – we almost fell into it by mistake, as we were heading into the bathroom (of all places) for a shot!

By this time, it was off to the church – and what a church it was. Jesse’s Dad mentioned to me that he used to go there as a child – how special to be able to get married in a significant place like that! The church itself was gorgeous – beautiful sweeping arches, stone columns, and stained glass windows.
Jesse’s face – when he saw Rachael for the first time:

Our first location for the bridal party shoot was the Te Rewa Rewa bridge – which is a striking architectural design, perfectly framing Mt. Taranaki. When we came the day before to check it out, the mountain was totally enclosed in cloud (as it often seems to be, when we visit New Plymouth) – but today, it was perfect.

Back down the other end, we played with the angles of the bridge, while shooting back into the sun … (nothing says ‘romance’ like the sound of a chugging generator powering the lights!!)

Then we headed over to some cool dunes & rocks…

These birds flew across at just the right time, in a perfect formation..

Sweeping.

Well done, by the way, getting up atop these rocks … (we don’t set easy tasks..)

Our time had disappeared – and it was time to race back to Okurukuru. When we arrived, we had a sneaky look in the next door neighbours’ field – where there was the beautiful mountain backdrop on one side… (this reminds me of ‘The Sound of Music’)

And then in the other direction, straight down to the sea.

It was a perfect, sunny end to a fantastic day.

We had to hit the road, to travel back to Cambridge for our wedding the following day… which was unfortunate, because the food looked & smelled amazing!
Okurukuru boasts the regional ‘Restaurant of the Year’ 3 years running.. so we’ll need to make it another time
